The latest tax increase on cigarettes has been officially signed into law by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Fixed tax rates for packs with retail prices up to EGP18 were raised to EGP3.50 from EGP2.75 previously. Cigarettes that retail for EGP18-30 per pack will now be taxed EGP5.50 (vs. EGP4.25 previously), while those sold at more than EGP30 will be taxed EGP6.50 (vs. EGP5.25).
